How to Successfully Introduce a New Tool
Algonquin College turned to H5P and transformed the way 23,000 students experience learning every day.
Algonquin College in Ottawa has a vision to offer personalised, digitally connected, and experiential learning. We spoke to Louisa Lambregts, Teaching and Learning Design Strategist, to find out how they achieve this with the introduction of their new content creation tool, H5P.
Problem
Algonquin College had their own in-house content creation tool built on Flash, but soon found that it did not meet their needs.
They needed to look for an alternative.
From a single pilot project to a college-wide Enterprise License, Algonquin's decision to adopt H5P took less than a year.
Solution
Pushed by their content creators, they found H5P in 2019, and after a successful pilot project, decided on an Enterprise License for the whole College.
Actions
Introducing a new tool to a whole college is no easy feat. Louisa and her team in Learning and Teaching Services implemented several action points that made it easy to communicate the existence and capabilities of H5P.
Results
Today, Algonquin College has over 600 faculty members making content with H5P and 23,000 students using these interactive activities on a daily basis.
This directly contributes to their vision to offer a digitally connected learning experience for students.
The ability to use a range of content types that speak to different types of learners also offers a more personalized learning experience and prepares students for a more connected world once they graduate.

Future
We continue to work with Algonquin College to support them in their vision and have learned valuable lessons from their adoption and implementation of H5P as a new tool among their faculty.
