What's coming next for H5P

H5P started by making interactive content easier to create. The next step is to make it easier to create high-quality content, improve it, and reuse what works at scale.

That direction is informed directly by the people building and teaching with H5P every day. Based on what we've heard from the community, our priorities are focused on faster content creation, easier accessibility and consistency, better reuse at scale, smoother learning workflows, and a stronger foundation underneath it all.

Create high-quality interactive content faster

Authors are looking for faster, easier ways to create high-quality interactive content, and that’s a big focus for us. We’re continuing to evolve the authoring experience to help people move from an idea or existing material to engaging H5P content more quickly. A few things we’re working on:

  • Shorter, clearer ways to bring in existing material, including PowerPoint-oriented workflows.

  • Editing assistance built into the authoring experience itself, so drafts need less manual cleanup.

  • Clearer guidance getting from a first draft to something publish-ready.

The outcome is simple: help authors create high-quality interactive content faster, with less manual rework and more confidence as their content libraries grow. And it's just the start of where AI-assisted authoring is headed.

Make accessibility and consistency easier to achieve

Accessibility is ongoing work for us, and one of the things people ask about most. We're continuing to invest in accessibility improvements aligned with how people actually teach and learn, alongside design-system and content-type updates that make accessible, consistent experiences easier to achieve across the platform.

Help organisations understand and reuse what works

Once an institution has a library of interactive content, the next question is usually how to understand what's working and help more instructors reuse it well. We're building aggregated views and dashboards to make usage, engagement and difficulty signals easier to understand across a whole organisation, along with better exports and reporting so admins can answer operational questions without manual requests or one-off data pulls.

Make H5P fit more naturally into existing learning workflows

For a lot of institutions, H5P doesn't live in isolation. It sits inside their LMS, alongside everything else instructors and admins are juggling. We're working on LTI 1.3 and dynamic registration improvements, deeper LMS integration, and broader compatibility updates, along with early exploration of assessment-oriented delivery patterns for things like exams. The aim is fewer setup steps and an experience that feels like a natural part of the learning platform you're already using.

Continue to strengthen the H5P ecosystem

A lot of important platform work is the kind users should barely have to think about. We're investing in autosave and other quality-of-life improvements to the editor, along with plugin stability and technical cleanup that supports institutions running H5P at real scale. The goal is a platform that feels reliable and trustworthy without the work underneath getting in the way.

Roadmap horizons

Here's roughly how things stand right now:

Already in motion:

  • Import flow and quality improvements

  • Editor reliability improvements

  • LMS setup and registration improvements

  • Plugin and compatibility updates

Defined and coming next:

  • A clearer AI-assisted authoring experience

  • Aggregated usage and reporting views

  • Exam-oriented delivery patterns

  • An updated H5P.com experience

Still exploring:

  • In-editor AI assistance

  • Customer dashboards and richer analytics

  • A modernised look for content types

  • Broader agent-assisted authoring patterns

Informed by the people building with it

None of this happens without the people already building with H5P: asking good questions, sharing feedback, and pushing the platform in directions we wouldn't have found on our own. This roadmap is informed by that input, and we want it to keep evolving with the community's feedback.

So, this is where we're headed. If you've got thoughts on any of it, we'd genuinely like to hear them.

Note: the priorities above reflect current thinking, not delivery commitments. Scope and timelines may change as we build.
